Abstract

581,551. Cable joints. OKONITECALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc. Feb. 12, 1945, No. 3485. Convention date, March 29, 1944. [Class 38 (i)] A connector for terminating an oil-filled cable having oil-permeable insulation, at a transformer or other apparatus disposed in an oil-filled casing, comprises an insulating tube 10 which encloses the end portion of the incoming cable conductor 2, and is sealed at its upper end by a connector 12 to which the cable conductor 2 is attached, and is open at the other end where it is in communication with a riser pipe 4 carrying oil at superatmospheric pressure. A cable 14 having oilpermeable insulation, and connected at one end to the apparatus within the casing 6, is joined to the incoming cable 2 via the connector which is surrounded by a flash-over tube 16. The assembly of insulating tube, flash-over tube, connector and cable is enclosed within a metal housing 8, detachably secured to the casing and filled with oil.
