Abstract
1,016,868. Insulating cable and wire joints and terminals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 13, 1963, No. 9976/63. Heading H2E. An assembly for sealing the entry of a cable 1, containing a number of coaxial conductors, into a repeater casing comprises a metal gland 2 with a bore 6 through which the end of cable 1 passes, a terminal 4 attached to each pair 12 of coaxial conductors, and a cast mass 3 of epoxy resin surrounding part of gland 6, the end of cable 1, and part of each terminal 4. The terminal 4 comprises a phosphor bronze reinforcing tube soldered at 23 to the inner coaxial conductor 16, a bent copper tube 18 crimped over the outer coaxial conductor 14 and its steel reinforcing tube 17, and terminal fittings 24, 25, 46 supported by soldering to the tube 18. An earth wire 30 wrapped around cable lead sheath 11 is connected to a bolt 34. A mould top 29 with end walls 37, 38 is then fastened to the gland 2 and to each brass fitting 25, and epoxy resin is poured through a hole 36 into a mould 39 to form the cast mass 3, after which the mould 39 and top 29 are removed. More epoxy resin is then poured into the terminal 4 on to a polythene washer 28 to form insulation 41.
