Abstract

581,292. Type - bar - making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd. (Mergenthaler Linotype Co.). Aug. 26, 1944, No. 16213. [Class 100 (iii)] In a typographical composing machine of the type in which the spacebands, suspended in the magazine by their upper projecting ears, are released by escapement mechanism cooperating with their lower ends, the escapement mechanism comprises a pin 3, Fig. 5, which moves the leading spaceband 7 edgewise to clear a stop 1 and allow it to'swing into contact with a second stop 2, and a second pin 4 which then moves the spaceband in the opposite direction clear of the stop 2 to allow it to fall down the delivery chute H. The pins are operated in unison by means of a slide 7, Figs. 5 and 8, moved in one direction by a rocking arm 13 and in the other direction by a spring plunger 11.
