Justifying matrices.-The justification bar 35, Figs. 1 and 2, is raised and lowered by hydraulic means comprising a piston 50, and the bar is tilted during the first justification and horizontal during the second justification. The bar is pivotally mounted at 36 and supported at the other end by a pin-and-slot connection 40, 41, being also provided with an arcuate niche 67 having a shoulder 80. When the first elevator descends a cam 90 thereon depresses a plunger 82 (if not already depressed) which is at that time aligned with a button 71 so as to move a disc 69 to the left in Fig. 2 against a spring 76, and allow the bar to drop into tilted position with the disc 69 engaging the niche 67. The bar 35 is raised for first justification, and thereafter lowered, engaging a leaf spring 95 which swings it to horizontal position in which it is retained by the disc 69, which is moved under the shoulder 80 by the spring 76. The bar 35 is then raised while horizontal for second justification, and thereafter lowered until the button 71 is aligned with the plunger 82. When the elevator is raised, the cam 90 will cause the bar to return to its canted position. Specification 746,898 is referred to.
