Abstract

172,290. Intertype Corporation, (Assignees of Piersen, E. W.). Nov. 27, 1920, [Convention date]. Assembling and distributing matrices.-Relates to line-stops for preventing displacement of the leading matrices of a line while in the first elevator or equivalent member of the machine. The device preferably comprises a pair of slide-bars 16 which arc connected together at their outer ends and are arranged to slide in the matrix-supporting channels 5, 6, Fig. 3, of the elevator. The bars extend into the elevator from the left-hand side and are caused by a spring 18 to abut against the upper lugs of the leading matrix of the line. Normally, the line-stop is frictionally held against movement by a spring-pressed plunger 19, which is raised, as the line enters the elevator, by a lever 24 under the action of the a pin 25 on the line-delivery carriage 12, so that the stop adjusts itself automatically to the length of the line. On the descent of the elevator, the plunger 19 is released and holds the line-stop in adjusted position. Specification 14582/90 is referred to.
