Abstract
581,107. Electromagnetic clutches. MARSHALL, SONS & CO., Ltd., and RICHARDS, S. H. Oct. 4, 1944, No. 18984. [Class 35] . A magnetic slip coupling for winding- machines comprises a radially magnetised steel member mounted on a driving shaft and surrounded by an iron or steel ring, an annular space between them accommodating a sleeve of a highly conducting material mounted on the driven shaft, the degree of coupling being adjustable by varying the axial depth of entry of the sleeve into the annular space. The magnet 14 which may have two or more poles and may be cylindrical or in the form of a cross, is driven with the ring 15 by a pulley 13 on the driving shaft 2 mounted in an axially slidable housing 5, the position of which is adjusted for the desired degree of coupling by a screw shaft 10. The conducting sleeve 18, preferably of copper, and a spool 25 are carried on the driven shaft 3 mounted in a fixed housing 21.
