611,807. Eddy current brakes. WINTHER, M. P., and WINTHER, A. May 8, 1946, No. 13888. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1945. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Groups XIX and XXXV] An eddy current brake, dynamometer or slip coupling has one member of imbricated pole form and the other has an uninterrupted magnetic surface co-operating with the imbricated polepieces, each of which is shaped as an equilateral triangle. As shown, the polepieces 23 of the field member are surrounded by a plain annulus 37 of practically pure iron carried by a member 29 having fan blades 35 and also carrying pulleys 31 for vee belts 33. The coil 11 may be replaced by an axially magnetised annular permanent magnet. The relative dimensions of the magnetic parts for obtaining the best results are given. The imbricated pole member may, as an alternative, surround the other member or be placed alongside it.
