Abstract
579,034. Signalling by visible signals. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., DAVIES, L. J., and BOURNE, H. K. June 1, 1938, No. 16409. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] A signalling apparatus comprises an electric discharge lamp 1 and a shutter 6 controlled by electro magnetic means, the solenoid 2 for operating the shutter being connected in series with the lamp 1 and with an impedance 7 which can be shortcircuited by a tapping key or contactor 9. The operation of the key simultaneously opens the shutter and increases the emission of light from the lamp. The lamp and the shutter mechanism are contained within an outer envelope 10 which may be evacuated or filled with an inert gas. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 508,241.
