429,750. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, DAVIES, L. J., 147, Murray Road, GILSON, C., 46, South Street, and SCOTT, W. J., 16, Oval Road, all in Rugby. Oct. 6, 1933, No. 27577. [Class 39 (i)] A lantern or reflector has as an integral part a magnetic core comprising part of a magnetic means serving to keep the arc in a lamp in an axial position when the lamp is operated with its axis other than vertical. In one form a lantern or reflector has portions 1 of sheet aluminium joined by a trough shaped core member 3 of iron which houses the lamp 2 and carries a winding 5 which energizes the core. According to the Provisional Specification a magnet for deflecting the arc may be provided in series or in parallel with the lamp and its stabilizing choke, or the choke may have a core having arms adjacent the lamp, or a number of small magnets connected in series may be provided between inner and outer envelopes of the lamp.
