Abstract

578,979. Crank chambers. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and MITCHELL, E. July 21, 1944, No. 13986. [Class 7 (ii)] A main bearing is secured in a split crankcase by a pair of short studs 10 which pass through adjacent web sections of the crank case, one end of each being screwed into a bore 4 and the other engaged by a nut 11 located in a circular transverse bore 8 and bearing on a washer 12, radiused on one side to fit the bore. The studs are thus located nearer the bearing than usual and weight is thereby saved.
