Abstract
578,908. Alloys; annealing. WEDDELL, A., and WOODWARD, W. E. Sept. 15, 1938, Nos. 26881/38 and 25065/39. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Steel particularly for armour plates comprises 0.3-0.75 per cent of carbon, 0.95-1.05 per cent of chromium, 1-1.2 per cent of molybdenum, and 0.2-0.3 per cent of vanadium. Usual proportions of silicon, sulphur, and phosphorus, and 0.6-0.9 per cent of manganese may be present. Heat treatment may comprise heating to 920‹ C., either directly or first to 500‹ C. and then slowly to 920‹ C., and cooling in still air, preferably followed by reheating to 600‹ C. and cooling in still air.
