Abstract

578,749. Hinges. BROMFIELD, R. H. July 24, 1945, No. 15245/43. [Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] Pivoting adjustments. A hinge comprising a pair of flaps A, B has an upstanding portion D on one flap A adapted to be engaged by notches in a locking member E connected to the other flap B so that the members connected by the hinge can be held in both closed and open positions, and if desired, also in intermediate positions. The notches may be all on the same side of the locking member, and a spring may be used to press the locking member into the engaging position. In the arrangement shown, adapted for the leg of a folding table, the locking member E is hinged to the flap B and passes through an aperture in the flap portion D, and the notches engage the edges of the aperture by gravity, one, as shown, when the leg is unfolded and the other when the table is inverted and the leg folded.
