758,823. Stays for hinged articles. ROWNTREE & CO., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1954 [June 23, 1953], No. 17396/53. Addition to 713,643. Class 65 (1). In a display device comprising two leaves hinged together so as to lie parallel to one another when folded, a self-closing strut is located within the hinge angle, each end of the strut being secured to one of the hinge leaves, the strut being creased across to form a hinge line 16 parallel to the axis of the hinge and having two further creases 11, 12 extending between the secured ends, the latter creases defining marginal areas 13, 14 which collapse when the hinge is opened, so that the strut acquires a channel section when the leaves are brought to the angle at which they are to be locked. As shown, each end of the strut is formed with securing tabs 5, 6, 7 defined by creases 8, and further creases 9 are made to define triangular areas 10 which are folded under before the tabs are secured to the leaves.
