[Class 52(iii)] A table or trolley comprises flaps hinged or linked to a central top part so that they may either rest on this part or be opened out to form an extension of it, the legs being formed as parts of a folding X-frame having vertical pivots. As shown, the flaps 2, 3 are hinged by short links to the edges of the central part 1 and have a rim 4 so that they form a tray in the folded position shown. Legs 5-8 form parts of a pair of vertical rectangular frames 9, 10 pivoted together and to the central part 1 at 14. The frames 9, 10 are held in the folded position shown against the action of a spring 25 by the engagement therewith of catches, 21, 22 formed on a bar 20 which is carried by a bar 17 pivoted to the top 1 at 16. With the end of the bar 17 in the lower position plates 18, 19 pivoted on the bar assume the position shown in Fig. 7 by reason of the engagement of slots 26, 28 in the plates with pins on the top 1. When the bar 17 is moved upwards to disengage the catches, 21, 22, the leg frames open out and the plates 18,19, then engage shoulders 30 on the flaps as shown in Fig. 13 thus preventing the flaps from being opened out until the legs have been opened by the spring 25. In a simpler form the spring 25 and the catch devices are dispensed with. The leg frames 9, 10 in this case may be held in the closed position by a removable tray attached by dowels to the lower horizontal members of the frames. The tray may have folding legs. The flaps may be coupled to the central part of the top by parallel linkage.
