Abstract
422,555. Hinges. INGRAM, J. F., 123, Pritchett Street, Birmingham. July 11, 1933, No. 19591. [Class 65 (ii)] A hinge for the leg of a folding table comprises a socket member, for receiving the leg, pivoted between opposite limbs of a bracket member, fixed to the table top, and a locking bolt or catch carried by the socket for engagement with the bracket to hold the leg foldec and unfolded, the bolt or catch lying outside the leg so that it does not prevent insertion of the leg into the socket after assembly of the hinge. In the form shown, the leg 2 is inserted from the bottom into a metal socket 1, of U-shape in plan, pivoted by a pin 12 between the arms 3<a>, 3b of a bracket fixed to the table top. The leg and socket are rounded at the top, and the leg is slotted at 11 to pass over the pivot pin 12. A bolt 5, sliding under spring pressure in a housing 6 on the outside of the socket 1, engages notches 10 in the bracket member 3<a> to hold the leg in either position ; a finger knob 9 on the bolt projects through a slot in the housing 6. In a modified form, the pivot pin is arranged across the corner of the table, so that the leg folds diagonally towards the centre of the table.
