Abstract

577,945. Semi-automatic guns. PARRY, N. Dec. 8, 1941, No. 15836. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] Automatic guns having a longitudinallyreciprocating breech-block 13 held in the open position by a catch 14 are adapted for semiautomatic working by providing a hinged tray 17 for loading by hand a single round in front of the breech-block through a side or top opening 15 in the barrel extension 11. In the form shown, the tray 17 is mounted on arms 19, 23 on a shaft 21 movable in bearings 22 by a handle 25 from a lateral receiving position to the position shown with the base of the round in front of the breech-block and the nose inclined inwardly, the round resting under the action of a spring 24 against shaped lips 16 on the barrel extension. For this purpose the tray is hinged at 18 on the arm 19. The breech-block catch 14 is slidable transversely against the action of a spring 29 and is released by an arm 30 on the shaft 21 when the tray occupies the loading position shown. In a modification suitable for top loading, the tray, after a pivotal movement, is slidable longitudinally on the shaft 21 to move the round forwardly and operate the catch to release the breech-block.
