576,284. Knitting. FULL - FASHIONED HOSIERY CO., Ltd., WHITE, J. C., and HILDITCH, J. E. Feb. 17, 1944, No. 2987. [Class 74 (ii)] In knitting the heel of a stocking blank upon a straight-bar machine, decrease is effected by an inward loop transference in such a manner as to produce a line of fashion marks 19, 15 oblique to the wales of both the heel bulge 17 and the adjacent foot bottom 21. In addition the fabric of the instep 20 is knitted of tighter mesh than the fabric of the leg 10 and foot top 16. During decrease, the fashioning points may be periodically racked outwards or alternatively the points, working outward from the inner point of each group, may be progressively rendered inoperative by peaking blades.
