Abstract

643,759. Knitting. BEACHAM, E. B. Jan. 5, 1948, No. 329. [Class 74 (ii)] The heel of a stocking knitted as a blank on a straight-bar machine is formed by suspending knitting on the instep needles as at BC and continuing to knit on the heel needles at each side of the blank as at AB, CD, decreasing the number of needles operative by two needles every alternate course for a number of courses, and then increasing the number of heel needles operative by two needles every second and fourth course alternately so that a suture EB, CF is formed at each side of the blank between the upper ABE, CDF and lower EBG, CFH parts of the heel. Additional courses knitted the full width of the blank may be introduced on completion of the upper parts of the heel so that a double or widened suture is formed.
