Abstract
633,623. Knitted fabrics; stockings and socks. SKOLE, V., and ANDERSEN, H. C. March 7, 1946, No. 7143. Convention date, April 19, 1943. [Class 74 (ii)] By repeated narrowings 10 and 11, or 21, until only a few wales are left, the toe and/or heel portions of a fully-fashioned stocking, made on a straight-bar machine, are provided with firm selvedges 8 and 9, or 20; and, thereafter, knitting is continued for a number of courses to produce tails, 12 or 22, which are sufficiently long to prevent the transfer to the remote ends thereof of unravelling stresses to which the toe or heel portion may be subjected. These tails are gathered in when seaming up the stocking. The tails 22 may be fixed in the side linking seams 23, The narrowings 10, 11 need not be centrally positioned and may be at the edges of the blank: The narrowing may be carried out more than once in each course.
