Abstract

661,947. Knitting. MILLER, I. L. June 24, 1946 [July 9, 1945], No. 28436/49. Divided out of 661,852. Class 74 (ii). A flat stocking blank, described in Specification 661,852, and adapted to be knitted on the machine illustrated in and in accordance with the method described in that Specification, comprises an ankle portion, heel areas and a foot portion all fully formed of integrallyconnected fabric, with no appreciable instep fabric between the starting and ending courses of the heel areas, the said heel areas being each formed of inwardly tapered gores (e.g. a, b, c), knitted while knitting of the instep is suspended, the apex of each succeeding gore, as knitting proceeds towards the sole, being outwardly positioned walewise with respect to the apex of the gore preceding it and the first and intermediate gores being subjected to widening operations at the selvedge edge, the final gore on each side, forming the lower ends of the heels, having a plain selvedge edge, so that the bottoms of the said heel areas are formed arcuately and with the heel and instep area presenting a continuous series of wale loops, extending across the fabric from selvedge to selvedge, from which the first course of foot fabric is knitted.
