Abstract

1,088,712. Knitting-members. S. A. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd. June 24, 1966 [June 28, 1965], No. 27269/65. Heading D1C. A flat bed knitting machine has a fashioning mechanism 13 a width control mechanism 14 and fashioning screws 15, 19 which are racked in either direction, the railing mechanisms and their associated bluff plates being driven from a single power unit which is a hydraulic cylinder and piston 44 this being connected by linkwork to the various pawls and bluff mechanisms. The fashioning screws are of opposite thread and one set of pawls rotates them in one direction and the other set in the opposite direction. Nut housings 16 are mounted on the fashioning screws to move the fashioning mechanism by means of bars 17, 18, 20. Switch boxes 63 are provided with a rotatable lever 72 which is set adjacent a cam roller 73 on the nut housing as the nut housing moves away the lever 72 is rotated and remains in the rotated position. The position of the lever 72 determines the direction in which the nut housings are to be automatically returned to the starting position after a garment has been completed. The pawls 25, 26, Fig. 2, are driven through a lever 35 and rod 43. A parallel system of rod 53 (not shown) and lever 52. operates the bluff plates. The abutment of the lever 52 against the end of a lever 58 determines the amount of bluffing to take place. The lever 58 is pivotted to vary the angular movement of the lever 52 and this determines whether the mechanism shall move one or two needlewidths or remain stationary.
