Abstract
842,232. Milling. BECH, J. July 15, 1958, No. 22630/58. Class 83. (3). [Also in Group XVI] A milling-machine, for routing and trimming stereotype plates 4, has a rotatable plate-holding drum 3 and a guide-rail 7, parallel to the axis of said drum, carrying a slide 8 having at least two coaxial and oppositely - opposed milling - spindles 10, 10<SP>1</SP> for simultaneously machining at least two plates attached to opposite sides of the drum. The slide 8 is movable, through a screw 24, by a handle 26, which may be operated by hand or by a motor 27, Fig. 2, through belts 28, 29, and a clutch. The drum is rotatable by a hand wheel 6 through a worm and worm-wheel, limited hand feed being permitted at the end of each reciprocation of the slide 8 by a pawl 38 which engages stop-pins 37 on the wheel 6 and is actuated by a lever 39 connected to a sliding bar 33, thereby causing the cutters to generate a zig-zag course on the work. This intermittent rotation of the drum may be caused by a motor driving through a slipping clutch. The bar 33 carries spacing stops 34 which, upon engagement with an adjustable stop 36 on a bar 35 on the slide 8, control the reciprocation of the slide 8 by causing the bar 33 to operate a reversing switch 30. The spindles 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, supported in bearings 11, 11<SP>1</SP> of arms 9, 9<SP>1</SP> held by the slide 8, are rotated by a motor 19 through belts 22, 22<SP>1</SP>, and are moved inwards along the diametral axis of the drum by rams and cylinders (not shown). The rams are actuated by a pedal 17, a lever 15 and a pump cylinder 13. The pedal may be made lockable in the depressed position and, upon releasing, may return automatically and retract the cutters from the plates.
