The invention may further be applied to jacquard lace full-fashioned flat hosiery machines by causing the covering needles provided with presser surfaces, during the presser as well nan'owing steps, to be brought by the jacquard attachment within or out of range of the frame needle hooks, so that these attaclnnents can be used also for working jacquard tuck patterns and the like besides serving their main purpose of producing jacquard lace patterns.
For carrying out the process described above the narrowing mechanism found in every flat hosiery frame is used after being suitably changed or supplemented, as shown in Fig. 8. V
In the hosiery frame according to Fig. 8, 9 is the machine frame in which the shaft i3 is rotatably disposed and carries the arms i l supporting on their front end the shaft to. The shaft l is provided with the holders it in the guide of which the bars ill and iii are displaceably disposed with the narrowers iii. The frame 9 further carries the bolts til to which the levers M are secured and provided with rotatable rolls 22 which rest on the cam M disposed on the main shaft 23 and which, by means of the connecting rods 25, carry the narrowing machine or determine the height of the narrowers l9. Below the rear ends of the levers 2B the supports 26 oscillatorily secured to the frame 9 are provided on which the levers 2| may rest as long as the supports 26 are within their range, i. e., as long as the narrowing machine is not moving up and down but inoperative.- However, if the narrowing machine is to be lowered for patterning, narrowing, widening or, according to the invention, for carrying out the presser process described, the supports 26 will be moved out of range of the levers 2| into the position indicated by dots and the narrowing machine can then move according to the form and rotation of the cams 24. For the presser process, the cams 24 are fitted with an inward bulge 32 to insure lowering of the narrowing machine after the motion of the supports 26 at the time when the frame needles 2 are lowered also. For narrowing, however, the standard narrowing cams, not shown, are provided which act in known manner by the lateral displacement of the main shaft 23.
As soon as the supports 26 are moved out of range of the levers 2 l, the rolls l2 will be laterally displaced so as to engage the cams ll havinga low presser point and to bring about the descent of the frame needles 2 at the requisite distance from the presser edge l of the sinker head 3.
The device according to the invention is particularly suited for producing hosiery with widened heel portions whose leg and foot portions are made without interruption on one and the same machine, though it can be profitably used also for making tuck pattern goods, such as twill, or for working in run stops, ladder-proof initial courses and the like.
I claim:--
1. In a fiat hosiery frame a narrowing mechanism for transferring loops and acting as auxiliary presser mechanism during looping, a grooved covering needle, a frame needle and a presser surface arranged above the groove of the covering needle and projecting from the plane of the latter to close the hook of the frame needle.
2. A flat hosiery frame according to claim 1, comprising a presser surface forming part of the covering needle.
3. A flat hosiery frame according to claim 1, comprising a presser surface consisting of a de ilection of the covering needle.
4. A fiat hosiery frame according to claim 1, comprising presser means arranged on the narrowing mechanism in front of the covering needle and carrying the presser surface.
5. A flat hosiery frame according to claim 1, comprising a cam having an inward bulge to perunit lowering of the narrowing mechanism during looping.
6. A flat hosiery frame according to claim 1, comprising supports movably disposed in the frame for holding the narrowing mechanism in inoperative position during looping.
