Abstract

575,395. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., HARTLEY, G. C., and KING, J; A. B. March 15, 1944, No. 4800. [Class 40 (v)] An oscillation generator comprises a thermionic valve amplifier having separate positive and negative feed-back paths with resistancecapacity means for frequency determination in the positive feed-back path and a directly heated thermistor in the negative feed-back path for stabilizing the output. The Figure shows a two-valve amplifier with positive feedback from the anode of valve V2 via blocking condenser K2 and the frequency controlling network having resistances R1 and R2 and capacities C1 and C2 to the grid of valve VI, and a negative feed-back path via K2 and the highly sensitive element or " thermistor " T, which has a negative temperature coefficient, to the cathode of the valve V1. Increase in anode voltage of the valve V2 decreases the resistance T, thereby increasing the negative feed-back so reducing the output. T and the cathode resistor R3 can be interchanged provided a thermistor with a positive temperature coefficient is now used. Frequency control can be effected by varying any of R1, R2, C1 and C2, the preferred method being to vary either, R1 and R2 together keeping the ratio R1/R2 constant, or C1 and C2 together keeping the ratio C1/C2 constant, thus ensuring a constant value of the positive feed-back.
