559,105. Automatic regulation. GLYNNE, A. Oct. 8, 1942, No. 14118. [Class 38 (iv)] A correcting voltage, to be added to an A.C. supply voltage 19 to obtain a stabilized voltage suitable for instrument testing, is obtained from the supply voltage through two like Wheatstone bridges a, b having a common pair of arms. The diagonal of one bridge a has a resistance 18 which, when the bridge unbalances due to supply voltage variation, is the seat of a voltage comprising unwanted third harmonic and quadrature components. These components are eliminated by a resistance 16 in the diagonal of the bridge b which contains elements 14, 15 tuning it to the third harmonic. The correcting voltage taken from the leads 21, 22 may be supplied through a thermionic amplifier to a transformer 27 with a secondary winding in series with the supply voltage and output terminals 29. The amplifier shown has a tapped anode resistance 23<SP>1</SP> to adjust the amplification and the power output valve has an automatic bias resistance 28. The Wheatstone bridges have resistances 4, 7, 11, such as metal filament lamps, which vary with applied voltage, and resistances 3, 8, 12 not affected appreciably by temperature.
