Abstract

644,083. Automatic voltage control systems. MARCONI INSTRUMENTS, Ltd. Dec. 2, 1947, No. 31848. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] An oscillator comprises an amplifier to which both positive and negative feed-back are applied by means of a resistance-capacity bridge network in which one arm is a valve acting as a variable impedance, being controlled by a control potential derived from the output of the amplifier. A double triode V1 is coupled by a common cathode resistance 5 and the second element is coupled to a further stage V2, feeding a " Weir " type bridge network. Positive feed-back is applied to the grid of the second element of VI from one arm of the bridge, comprising the anode-cathode path of a valve V3, while negative feed-back is applied to the first element of V1 from the opposite corner of the bridge. The impedance of the valve V3 is reduced by negative feed-back over resistances 40, 41 and is controlled by the grid bias, which is derived from the amplifier output by means of a diode rectifier 23 ; a delay bias is applied to the diode from a negative source over resistance 28 and a gas-discharge tube 26. The sensitivity of control may be increased by further amplification, such as a D.C. amplifier inserted between the diode 23 and valve V3.
