574,969. Electron oscillators. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and HARRIS, N. L. Oct. 8, 1940, No. 15018. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Velocity-modulation electric discharge apparatus, of the type comprising a closed envelope of vitreous material through which a cathode-ray may pass, and a hollow resonator of which the field reacts with the ray and which is arranged partly inside and partly outside the envelope, is constructed by shaping the wall 2 of the resonator from a single piece of metal round a length of vitreous tubing 1 adapted to form part of the envelope, -the ends of this tube being then sealed to the interior of the resonator wall and two portions 4, 5 of the remainder of the envelope being sealed (preferably in the same operation) to the exterior of the wall, preferably opposite the ends of the tube 1. The resonator shown is of toroidal form, and may be shaped by spinning, pressing, or drawing it round the tube 1.
