Abstract

574,181. Stop motions for spinning and twisting spindles. FORREST, P. W. Jan. 12, 1944, Nos 570 and 12053. [Class 120 (ii)] A stop motion assembly for the spindles of spinning and twisting machines, incorporating a driving pulley 3 for the spindle 1, an axiallymovable clutch ring 2, and an axially-movable brake ring 5 operated by a trigger driven upon breakage or failure of a yarn, is characterised in that normally the drive from the pulley 3 to the spindle 1 is through the inner marginal part of the clutch ring 2 but, upon operation of the trigger device, this drive is broken and stoppage of the spindle is effected by application of the brake ring 5 to the outer marginal part of the clutch ring. The bobbin on which the yarns are twisted is supported upon a flange 19 and driven by projections 20 thereon. The flange 19 is part of the spindle 1 carried in ball bearings 7, 8, 9 and driven by the pulley 3 through a clutch ring 2, spring urged at 16 against the flange 4 of the pulley 3. A key 12 connects the driving disc 11 with the spindle 1. A brake ring 5 carried by a spring-urged plunger 21, overlies the clutch ring 2 and upon breakage or failure of any of the yarns being twisted, the rod 6 of the trigger device is turned to allow the brake ring to be forced downwardly by the spring 24 so disconnecting the clutch ring 2 from the driving pulley 3 and stopping the spindle. In the modification of Fig. 4, the bobbin is supported by the member 19<1> driven through a main clutch ring 2<1> and a second clutch ring 2<11> by the pulley 3<1> and sleeve 14<1>. The clutch ring 21 is spring- urged at 16<1> into contact with the clutch ring 2<11>. Upon breakage or failure of any yarn, the arm 41 is turned so that the cam portion 61 depresses a spring-biased sleeve 34 to cause a brake ring 5<1> carried thereby to separate the clutch ring 2<1> from the clutch ring 2<11> so to stop the spindle. The spindle 1<1> and pulley 3<1> are carried by ball bearings 43. The detector device may also effect the separation or stoppage of the yarn feed rollers.
