Abstract

Resistance heating elements consist of a mixture of silicon carbide with carbide, nitride, silicide, or boride of chromium, and carbide, nitride, silicide, or boride of beryllium, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium, or vanadium, with or without nitride, silicide, boride or oxide of manganese, iron, nickel, or cobalt. The additional carbide, silicide, nitride, oxide, or boride may be obtained by adding a metal, metal oxide, or other compound capable of reacting with silicon carbide, or the metal or metal compound may be mixed with carbon or silicon or compound of nitrogen, oxygen, or boron, and added to the silicon carbide. The resulting composition may be used as a resistance rod, or may be crushed to granular form, or may form a coating on carbon or graphite elements. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes electric resistance heating elements consisting of silicon carbide with carbide, nitride, silicide, boride, or oxide, of beryllium, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium, vanadium or chromium, with or without nitride, silicide, boride, or oxide, of manganese, iron, nickel or cobalt. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
