Abstract
A mixture of chromium sesquioxide with chromium containing up to one-quarter the number of atoms relative to that of chromium in the sesquioxide is heated at 1500-1800 DEG C. in an inert atmosphere. The product preferably has Cr : O ratio of 1 : 1.2-1.4.ALSO:A ceramic substance is obtained by heating at 1500 DEG -1800 DEG C. in an inert atmosphere a mixture of chromium sisquioxide and metal powder in an amount of the latter such that the number of atoms is up to one quarter that of chromium atoms in the oxide. The product preferably has the ratio Cr : O 1 : 1,2-1,4, and it may be powdered and mixed with an organic binder or a binding metal, e.g., columbium, nickel or iron, prior to shaping and sintering.
