Abstract
573,777. Endless-track vehicles. ROADLESS TRACTION, Ltd., JOHNSON, P. H., and TRIPP, L. W. Nov. 26, 1943, No. 19818. [Class 79 (i)] For converting a vehicle having driving wheels fitted with pneumatic tyres into a vehicle of the track-laying type, an endlesstrack of the locked girder type is entrained around a pneumatic tyred wheel in drive engagement therewith and around one or more idle or other supporting wheels, rollers or the like, the drive engagement being obtained by - positive mating or meshing engagement between formations on the track links and corresponding formations on the tyre, the tread and/or the side portion or portions of which co-operate with the track. The track may be designed for engagement with various known tread patterns and the parts of the links which actually engage the tyre may be detachable and interchangeable with parts of another pattern. As shown, the endless-track consists of two laterally-spaced series of links having hinge pins 5, 6 respectively and interconnected by common ground plates 7 each carrying a gap-covering element 8, alternate plates being provided with spuds 9. The track links 10 have abutments 11 engaging the undersides of bridge-pieces 12 of links 13 and the links 13 have abutments 14 engaging the undersides of bridge-pieces 15 of the links 10. For engaging the tread pattern of the tyre, right- and left-hand tooth-like projections'20 are detachably secured to certain of the bridgepieces 15.
