Abstract

613,564. Endless tracks for vehicles. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. June 17, 1946, No. 18109. Convention date, Jan. 10. [Class 79 (i)] An endless track for vehicles comprises a pair of flexible endless belts, cross members attached to the belts and longitudinally spaced therealong, auxiliary members attached to the cross members, and torsion resisting means disposed alternately with the auxiliary members to prevent torsional movement of the truck. The torsion resisting means may be plates disposed between the auxiliary members and interlocking therewith. The endless belts 1, Figs. 1, 2, and 4, are composed of fabric and rubber reinforced by series of longitudinal wires 2. The cross members 6 are bolted onto the belts 1 by bolts 11 on the outside of the track with auxiliary members 16 fastened by these bolts on the inside of the track, whilst end flanges 18 on the members 16 guide the track wheels 1. Fastened on the inside of the track alternately with the members 16 are torsional resisting plates 23, which interlock with the members 16 and have plates 24 secured on the outside of the track by means of bolts 25, Fig. 5. The cross members 6 have middle portions 7 which are recessed to receive rubber tread blocks 15. The tyre 27 of the driving wheel 26 has lugs 29 which engage between the cross members 6. The tyres may be solid or pneumatic. In a modification lugs are provided on the outer extremities of the members 16 to engage the teeth of a sprocket wheel. The vehicle may be half or full tracked.
