Abstract
585,251. Endless-tracks for vehicles. ROADLESS TRACTION, Ltd., JOHNSON, P. H., and TRIPP, L. W. Dec. 12, 1944, No. 24938. [Class 79 (i)] In an endless track of the locked girder type, the abutment surfaces extend over the whole or the greater part of the link width and are parallel to the plane containing the hinge pins (i.e., parallel to the ground when the links are on the ground). Preferably, alternate links only engage the ground, and the abutment surfaces are located in the upper portions of the gaps between ground-engaging elements and are so shaped that together with the supports for the abutment surfaces they act to expel mud from such gaps when the links hinge. As shown in Fig. 1 and the plan, Fig. 2, the alternate groundengaging box-like links 1 and 2 have hinge-pin carrying portions 5 and lugs 7 extending therefrom which support abutment members 8 which extend across the width of the links. Intermediate links 3 comprise a flat plate 3 on whose underside are flat abutment surfaces 9 traversing the width of the link. The hinge pins 4 are located by end plates 10 which guide the track when the latter is being used on solid or pneumatic rubber tyres.
