Abstract

571,723. Endless tracks for vehicles. BURGESS, F. E. Dec. 4, 1942, No. 17277. [Class 79 (i)] An endless track comprises a series of tread members or links each having a pair of pivot sleeves 11 rigidly connected together by side bars 12, the ground-engaging parts or shoes being constituted by separable plate members 20, 21 clamped together on to the pivot sleeves 11, resilient means such as rubber pads or sleeves 35 being clamped between the shoe parts and the pivot sleeves 11. Thus, any inaccuracy of fit between the shoes and the sleeves is compensated for by the rubber. In the construction shown, the track is of the kind described in Specification 563,628, the shoes being connected together by C-shaped connectors 17 and pins 16 passing through the pivot sleeves 11, rubber sleeves 19 being interposed between the pins and sleeves 11. The shoe comprises upper and lower plates 21, 20 clamped on to the sleeves 11 by three bolts 27 housed in recesses in the plates, and the upper plate 21 may be formed as shown with a rubber facing 40 vulcanized thereto to form a path for rubber-faced rollers on the vehicle when such are used. The rubber sleeves 35 are vulcanized to the pivot sleeves 11. In a modification, the upper and lower parts 21, 20 of the shoe are provided with rubber pads vulcanized thereto, these pads gripping the sleeves 11.
