[Class 7 (i)] In a power plant comprising several generators supplying one prime mover, the prime mover and each generator has a governor and the governor of the prime mover is connected to each generator governor, to control the output of the generator, by a disconnectible coupling. Generators 1, 2 each include a freepiston engine 3 controlled by a fuel injector 17 and adapted to exhaust into a container 9 fitted at one end with a no-load valve 11 and at the other with a valve 13 opening into a supply conduit 15 for a turbine 14. A'branch pipe 49 from the container 9 leads to a governor 22 connected by a disconnectible coupling 27 to the fuel injector 17. The turbine 14 carries a governor 23 which actuates a valve 28 adapted to determine the pressure in a hydraulic line 30 supplied by a pump 29. This line actuates spring-pressed pistons 32 associated with one half of a disconnectible coupling 34, the other half being secured to the fuel injector.' At starting, pressure is built up in the container 9, the valve 13 being closed and the no-load valve 11 open, a blow-off valve 37 in the pipe 15 also being open and the coupling 34 being disconnected. When pressure has been built up by screwing down the valve spring of the no-load valve 11, the valve 13 is opened to pass pressure fluid into the conduit 15. Closure of the blow-off valve 37, by turning a screw 43 to displace a piston 41 which rotates a cam 40 to rock a lever connected at its other end to the valve, starts the turbine 14 and the governor 23 then ensures pressure in the hydraulic circuit 30 to actuate the pistons 41, 32, the former controlling the turbine and the latter the fuel injector after the piston side of the coupling 34 has been manually turned to register with the other side and the coupling effected.
