Abstract
572,242. Treating liquids with gases. PATERSON, W. Sept. 8, 1943, No. 14728. [Class 46] [Also in Groups VI and XII] Apparatus for the treatment of liquids with gases such as the treatment of water with ozonised air comprises a vessel a into which the liquid is admitted there being' a fixed diffuser or apertured pipe b for the introduction of the gas at the bottom of the vessel and a rapidly vibrated fine mesh screen c extending across the vessel through which screen the whole, of the gas entering the vessel as bubbles must pass. The rapid vibrations may be :effected by an eccentric connection or toothed tappet wheel drive from an electric motor g, by an unbalanced rotating weight, or by a magnetic oscillator: The rapid movement breaks up the bubbles. d into a mist-like suspension g. The screen may be formed with a peripheral skirt, Fig. 2 (not shown) to enclose the rising large bubbles and so ensure their break up or if the amplitude of movement is small the screen may be fixed at its periphery.
