Abstract

740,646. Electrostatic precipitation. RESEARCH CORPORATION. July 2, 1953 [July 16, 1952], No. 18368/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] In an electrostatic precipitator the gas stream is passed through a high-voltage electrostatic field and is simultaneously subjected to the action of a high-frequency sonic energy field having a frequency of at least 5 kilocycles, preferably 5 to 50 kilocycles. The sonic energy generator is located at the top of the casing and a liquid pool in the bottom of the casing acts as an acoustic reflector. A liquid spray is provided in the upper part of the casing. The generator may be of the siren or gas-jet type, driven by a portion of the gas stream passed through an auxiliary pump, or a magnetic or piezo-electric vibrator.
