Abstract
1,192,071. Electrostatic precipitators. FRIED. KRUPP G.m.b.H. 2 Aug., 1967 [3 Aug., 1966], No. 35570/67. Heading B2J. Dust is removed from unburnt waste gas in an oxygen-blowing steel-making process, by passing gas through an electrostatic precipitator which has tubular collector electrodes 3, Fig. 1, associated coaxial discharge electrodes 4, an inlet pipe 1 and an exit pipe 7, with an exhaust fan 8. A gas-tight connection between the electrodes 3 and a top part 10 is provided by liquid-filled cups 12, 13. Dust is shaken into a space 2 by vibration of pistons 18 and conveyed by a paddle wheel 21 to a worm conveyor 22 and pocket wheel 23. To prevent danger due to explosive gas mixtures in the precipitator derived from the oxygen steelmaking process, the oxygen supply is withdrawn from the refiner if the fan 8 fails, and an injector nozzle 27 is switched in to force the gas quickly through the filter. The energizing current for the electrodes .is switched off by a switch 30. In a second embodiment, dust is removed from the electrodes by sprays 45, Fig. 3, and removed from the bottom of a water bath 43 by a paddle wheel 44.
