[Class 52 (ii)] A hospital bed constructed in four adjustable sections and adapted to support a patient in an inclined position with the buttock in a transverse depression and the entire body supported, comprises a head section, a foot section and two intermediate sections, one of the intermediate sections being hinged at one end to the stationary frame and at the other end to the head section. The intermediate section 7, Fig. 1, may be raised or lowered about a fixed pivot 10 by means of a screwed shaft 15a rotated by a crank handle 21. The head section 6, at one end is connected by a pivot 11 to the intermediate section and its other end is raised or lowered by rollers 22 on a U-shaped frame 23 rocked about its pivot 25 by a crank handle 30. The foot portion consisting of two sections 8, 8a united by a hinge 9 is connected to the fixed pivot 10, and the hinge 9 may be raised' or lowered to adjust the angular positions of the two sections, by means of a crank handle 39 operating through an extensible rod 37 and frame 34a, 35a connected to the hinge 9. The section 8a may also be tilted manually and be retained in adjusted position by a hinged stay 40 engaging notches. A mattress 32 rests on the sections. The various adjustments permit the bed to be given numerous forms to support the patient in convenient positions for operation, anema, bed-pan or other treatment.
