Abstract
685,883. Invalids' beds. McKNIGHT, J. R., and MACKINLAY, W. R. Sept. 28, 1951 [Sept. 28, 1950; Nov. 10, 1950], Nos. 23792/50 and 27501/50. Class 52(ii) A general nursing or orthopedic bed having a frame for supporting a patient, which frame is mounted on trunnions so that it can be turned over to reverse the position of the patient, comprises a fixed outer frame a supported on legs, an inner frame e mounted on trunnions f carried by bearings g on the outer frame a, a fabric head support i releasably secured to the frame e, metal straps k, m secured to the frame e by screwed pins to support the posterior cast in which the patient rests, additional straps r, s for securing the anterior cast when required, and a mattress u carried by a frame u<SP>1</SP> having arms v which rest upon cross rails on the outer frame a in either the in-use or out-of-use positions. To turn the patient over when secured in the posterior cast, the anterior cast is placed on the patient and secured by straps r, s, the mattress u moved to its lower position, the head .sling i released, the inner frame e released by unhooking hooks q carried by the .outer frame a and the inner frame e reversed by means of the handle h, after which the head sling i is replaced and the posterior cast, now uppermost, removed.
