Abstract
572,042. Conveyers; bridge cranes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GYTON F. G. Oct. 25,1943, No. 17579. [Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv)] In a mobile bridge structure, such as a transporter bridge or an ore reclaiming machine of the kind described in Specification 534,034, comprising a bridge carried at each end by a bogie adapted to be driven along a rail by a motor mounted on the bridge, means are provided for indicating to the driver when the bridge becomes askew. The trailing wheel 9 of the end bogie 7 drives through chain-and-sprocket gearing 16 a shaft 12 which is mounted on the bridge 11 and extends almost to its centre. Near the centre the bridge carries a pillar 13 which supports shafts 14, 15 carrying sprockets 1, 2. A sprocket 4 is supported by the inner depending bight of an endless chain 3 which is looped around the sprockets 1, 2. The spindle 5 of the sprocket 4 is constrained to move vertically in a guide 17 in the pillar and is connected by a cable 20 passed over a series of pulleys on the bridge to a weight 23 which moves over a scale 24 in the driver's cabin. The shaft 14 is driven by chain-and-sprocket gearing 18 from the shaft 12, and the shaft 15 is driven in a similar manner from the trailing wheel of the other bogie. If these trailing wheels do not rotate at the same speed, the shafts 14, 15 will be driven at different rates, and the sprocket 4 will rise or fall. This movement is transmitted by the cable 20 to the indicator in the driver's cabin.
