Abstract

574,520. Coping-carriages for staging, HOGG, T. Oct. 8, 1943, No. 16495. [Class 20 (ii)] A carriage for supporting a cradle and adapted to travel along the coping of a building has the wheels spring-mounted so that each wheel makes load-carrying contact with the coping. The carriage comprises a frame 10 having spring- mounted axles 11, 12 for the wheels 13 and bearings for a beam 15 which has a hoist for the cradle at one end and a counterweight at the other, the hoist for the cradle, and the counterweight being on opposite sides of the coping. The beam may be in two overlapping parts which are relatively slidable by right and left hand screw gear to vary the distance between cradle hoist and counterweight, the pitches of the right and left hand portions of the screws being such that the ratio of the overhanging portions of the beam remains constant. In a modification, a beam of constant length' is used, brackets carrying the cradle-hoist and counterweight being similarly adjustable along the beam by right and left hand screw gear. The apparatus is traversed by a chain &c. operated from the cradle and driving one of the axles. e.g., by worm gearing. According to a modification one of the axles need not be spring supported.
