Abstract
571,503. Discharge apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Oct. 7, 1943, No. 16415. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode assembly an electron-emitting member 11 is supported at opposite sides by means 15 in a plane normal to the axis of the electron beam emitted so that thermal expansion of the assembly produces no movement of the member 11 along the axis, any motion produced consisting in a rotation round this axis. The members 15 may be tapered at the ends connected to the member 11 to reduce heat losses therefrom. A centrally-positioned substantially planar portion 13 of electron-emitting material is formed on member 11. In an alternative form member 11 may be square, the two supporting arms being attached at opposite corners thereof. The cathode assembly, an apertured control electrode 3, and a bottom cover-plate 3 are all mounted on ceramic rods 1. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 558,429.
