[Class 44] In a padlock comprising front and back plates 1, 10 with an intervening roundabout strip 7 and with a slidable keyhole cover 5 having its openi n g movement limited by a stop, the keyhole cover is put in place on the front plate and the case is assembled, a part of the case providing the stop. As described, a plate' 6 (shown dotted, Fig. 5) is secured to the front plate 1, plate 6 having an aperture registering with the keyhole in the front plate and having its side edges turned up to stand away from the front plate and provide spaces in which the inturned side edges of the cover plate 5 can slidably engage. The top edge of plate 5 is turned down towards the front plate, to limit the downward sliding movement. The roundabout strip 7 has terminal loops 8 to receive two of the rivets 9 which secure front and back plates together, and has lateral projections 11 disposed between lugs 12 of the front and back plates between which the ends of the padlock hasp are received. These projections aid in preventing ingress of water and the front one, by projecting above plate 1, provides the stop which limits the opening movement of cover plate 5. As a modification, these projections are replaced by an integral lug on the back plate which is bent forward to lie between the lugs 12 and project beyond the front plate.
