570,779. Helicopters. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., CHAPLIN, H. E., and COSTIGAN, F. J. Feb. 3, 1944, No. 1988. [Class 4] The rotor blades m of a helicopter are mounted on carriages provided with rollers 35 capable of movement along and rotation about arcuate guides 34 in T-shaped members 31, 32, to permit flapping and drag movements, the stem portions 31 of these members being mounted in bearings e, permitting changes in blade pitch. A gimbal ring g, capable of sliding and tilting movement, is connected by links to lugs projecting from the T-shaped members 31, 32, to impart simultaneous and cyclical pitch variations to the blades. The drive between the shaft 18 and rotor hub c is in the form of an epicyclic reduction gear, comprising compound planet pinions 20, 22, meshing with sunwheels 21, 23. A band brake 24 is provided for locking the rotor hub.
