Abstract

570,778. Helicopters. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., CHAPLIN, H. E., and COSTIGAN, F. J. Feb. 3, 1944, No. 1987. [Class 4] The rotor blades m of a helicopter are mounted on drag links k, attached to the hub by T-shaped brackets f, g and extending in the trailing direction, the drag pivots for the blades being formed at the ends of the links. The arms of the T-shaped brackets are journalled in bearings e, h to provide pitch'changing and flapping axes. Simultaneous and cyclical pitch variations are imparted to the blades by sliding and tilting movements of a gimbal ring q, connected to each of the members f, g by means of links o. The drive between the shaft 18 and rotor hub c consists of an epicyclic reduction gear comprising compound planet pinions 20, 22, meshing with sun-wheels 21, 23. A band brake 24 is provided for locking the rotor hub.
