Abstract
1310472 Toothed gearing P H CLEFF 8 June 1971 19536/71 Heading F2Q Contra-rotating propellers 12, 25 of a ship are driven from a turbine 1, the propeller 12 being mounted on an inner shaft 11 which is driven through non-epicyclic reduction gearing 5, 6, 8 and 9, and the propeller 25 being mounted on an outer shaft 24 which is driven through epicyclic gearing 17, 18, 19, and reduction gearing 21, 22. A flexible coupling 2 and thrust bearings 10, 23 are provided. The annulus 19 is supported by a plurality of cantilever springs 26 either from a fixed casing 16 or from a drum 26, Fig. 2, which may be held stationary by means of a brake 29. In a further modification, gears 9, 22 are driven from two separate turbines arranged in parallel.
