Abstract

15,029. Cake, H. M. June 29, 1910, [Convention date]. Driving-arrangements for screw propellers; screw propellers.-Power from a single source is uniformly distributed among several propellers mounted on the same shaft. A ring 2, Fig. 1, is fixed to the propeller shaft 1, and carries a number of bevel-wheels 5 mounted on pins 6. Two propellers 10, 11 are furnished with bevelgear faces 12, 14, gearing with the pinions 5. Thrust-blocks 15, 16, with antifriction metal rings 17, 18, are fixed to the shaft. The propellers are rotatably mounted on the shaft. In Fig. 3, four propellers are shown, the third propeller aft being mounted on an extension of the boss of the second. Since each propeller receives the same amount of power from the pinions 5, each rotates at a speed which enables it to absorb that power. Specification 18,739/10 is referred to.
