Abstract

1448346 Marine propellers VOLVO PENTA AB 12 March 1974 [20 March 1973] 10905/74 Heading B7V [Also in Division F1] A rotary apparatus which is either rotated to drive a surrounding gas or liquid medium or is rotated by the flow of such medium has a first set of blades at a fixed pitch angle and a second set of blades which are freely rotatable about radial axes so that the medium flowing around the blades adjusts the pitch of the second set of blades in relation to their rotary speed and the axial speed of the medium. In one embodiment, the apparatus constitutes a marine propeller (Fig. 6) having two blades 21 of fixed pitch and two freely rotatable blades 23. Alternatively the two sets of blades may be arranged on respective hubs which are either axially separated on a common shaft or are arranged on respective shafts.
