Abstract
1492390 Variable pitch blades; jet propulsion engines UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 10 Dec 1974 [8 April 1974] 53400/74 Headings F1C F1J and F1T Impeller blades 12 of a ducted fan for a jet propulsion engine are varied in pitch by a ring gear 20 the surface 22 of which is wave-like, which engages non-circular gears 18 such that adjacent blades rotate at different rates. As reversal of pitch from that in Fig. 2A to that in Fig. 2C is effected by rotating gear 20, the blades will pass through the intermediate position, Fig. 2B, at different times so that even if they overlap, adjacent blades will not interfere with each other.
